BY KANSIIME DIANAH “JIUCY” Calm intelligent eyes gaze over the horizon. A tall dark smart catholic and gently moves around
the compound, neatly polished shoes cover his feet. He has been described as a fine fellow with
an old head on young shoulders. His name is Jjagwe Tony Raymond, a third year student at

august 2016 when he was a 1st year student. Raymond held leadership positions like being a
timekeeper and president of the debaters. Nevertheless also served as a writers club President,
Prom President, Information, education and library minister at St Marys College Lugazi. He is
currently the Union President of Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi and an astute debater who
has led the UMU legal moots to greater heights. He is a gavellian; Sergeant at arms of Gavels
club, President of the Human rights, debate club, member of the good Samaritan movement,

His favorite books are; The autobiography of Martin Luther King, “The legacy and lesson of
President J. F Kennedy on leadership”. Then his genre of music is all interesting local,
international and oldies music. He says “its nerve calming and interesting to listen to. Raymond
emphasizes his favorite quote “The quality and not the longevity of your life is what is
important.”-Martin Luther King. He also says that he really loves watching movies and listening
to his speeches, which give him strength to keep on moving for his dream. Furthermore, he tells
us about his working experience at World Vision in Western Uganda and also KCCA at city hall
in Kampala in July and June. He also holds some business like WANZI investment which makes
and brands new shirts and then also BEGAN which makes ready to eat silver fish.
UMU Spotlight simply had a conversation with him about his Political status and he told us he
came to become the Union President .This was a dream since his A-LEVEL that he had thought
that wherever(University ) he goes to , he must become the Union President .This quietly gave
him confidence to prove his word and reach the hearts of the people .Great Speeches of Martin
Luther King and J.F Kennedy “ gave him self-motivation making him also a good aurator to
easily attract free, power towards his election. Feedback was brought through various sources
mostly from unknown sources who even called to congratulate him on the great Presidential
debate that he showed confidence and converged all the skills from his role models. Raymond
sees himself as a great politician, Businessman, farmer in the next 5 years to come, he
concludes by saying “The country needs more of us to serve and therefore now…..Is the time.”
